CREATIVITY (WRITING AND SKETCHING) WORKSHOP
$10 per person - Sunday, August 9th at 2pm! There will be 20 spots available! You may message us and reserve your spot now. Brian W. Parker of Believe in Wonder Publishing Where do your ideas come from? It’s the most common question asked of artists, writers, and creatives – and sometimes one of the hardest to answer. It’s our mission to help shed some light on this essential part of the creative process. How? Through actively harvesting ideas in journals, sketchbooks, on napkins, and in the margins of your favorite books. Storytellers in all fields use journaling and sketching to capture ideas and to locate, develop, and communicate their stories across a range of disciplines? In our workshop we will dive into the process, with great examples of journals created by artists like Guillermo del Toro and Neil Gaiman. Bring your excitement to create, and your imagination! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Believe-In-Wonder-Publishing/312698335407528?fref=ts

I had the pleasure of celebrating with my friend David Walker the recent release of Cyborg #1 from DC Comics. David and I met a few months ago at an art exhibit we were both featured in, and learned that we are both members of the Black Creative Collective here in Portland. I was already aware of his work and great talent from his comic book Shaft, published through Dynamite Comics, but little did I know that he was a really cool guy as well. As an avid reader of comics and graphic novels, it does my heart good to know that he is at the reigns of such a interesting and visible character. I really hope that this leads to more African American characters moving from the role of sidekick and background. Awesome books – Pick it up!! #Cyborg #DCComics #DavidWalker #believeinwonder #diversityincomics

PRESS RELEASE« Believe In Wonder Publishing will premier this summer at The Second Star Festival in Florence, OR, on August 8-9. Believe In Wonder is a youth focused publishing entity based in Portland, OR. We publish internally developed works like The Wonderous Science (due out in Spring 2016,) the exciting graphic novel series YOU CAN RELY ON PLATYPI, and Crow in the Hollow (a YA fantasy adventure published in partnership with Inkwater Press.) With our new status as a solely owned publishing entity, we will actively search out new and amazing works to bring to the public eye. Our focus is to promote creativity, inspiration, and positive thinking in kids and adults alike through incredible narratives, bound only by the power of the imagination. In a time where social pressures and injustices threaten to take away our ability to dream of a better future, we hope to promote endeavors and education that uplifts and inspires, as well as provides creative outlets for the young and young at heart. We have an emphasis on bringing these opportunities to underrepresented communities and their allies, but we hope our work and message is embraced by many. The brainchild of Brian and Josie Parker, Believe In Wonder is poised to fill a significant role in youth publishing here in the Pacific Northwest, pulling in inspiration and resources from the diverse creative communities in this area. Through continuing to publish the works of Brian Parker, as well as adding new and amazing works by area authors, poets, artists, and illustrators, we hope to further cement Portland as a publishing center. Believe In Wonder mission is youth outreach, which we hope to further through partnerships with groups like Right Brain Initiative (Brian Parker received a coveted scholarship to attend the Imagine This! Symposium at Portland Art Museum) as well as Portland Children’s Museum, Regional Arts and Culture Commision, Multnomah County Libraries, and area schools and nonprofits. We will be presenting art educational projects and classes to promote creativity in young people, with a strong focus on the underprivileged and those in the foster care system. Be on the lookout for our increased visibility at events and conventions throughout 2015 leading up to the release of our flagship title, The Wonderous Science – the first in a incredible Portland-based fantasy series in the vein of Lemony Snicket, P.L. Travers and J.K. Rowling. WOOHOO!!! WE MADE IT!! 200 Likes for The Wonderous Science! We're just getting started folks – a world of wonders awaits us, and I'm excited you're all along for the ride. #believeinwonder
IT'S OFFICIAL! For those of you that didn't know, Josie and I have been working towards a goal for sometime, and now we feel pretty confident sharing it with you. As of yesterday, we are now officially signed up as an LLC, and BELIEVE IN WONDER PUBLISHING is ready for business! The publishing company has existed in some form for since 2013, but I'm proud to say that we are now broadening our focus from just publishing our own work to also the amazing work created by other authors and artists. Another major concern our company will be community outreach: we are actively putting together classroom programs, after school art classes, and partnering with area organizations to bring creative learning to children and young adults. Inspiring wonder and imagination in young people is something near and dear to us, and what better way to make an impact then sharing our love of stories. We hope you join us in the new chapter (hehehe) and be on the lookout for events and announcements in the months to come.
Hello everybody! I'm feeling unbelievable blessed, because the Lord is allowing me to see some of the points of the path He has for us more clearly!!. I am super excited and humbled to be on this path with my Love and Partner Brian! Blessings beget blessings! #believeinwonder
