The event is hosted by The Black Parents Initiative, and will be a wonderful celebration of literacy, imagination, and the amazing contributions of the African American community to the world of storytelling. What started off as just something to pass the time over the holidays (and let's be real, a way to avoid the stress) turned into a series of illustrations an imagined characters that I never could have expected. I would post them to Facebook with the hashtag #FancyDressedAnimals, and the response was so uplifting and supportive. I couldn't help be keep drawing, each one becoming more elaborate and full of personality. In the end I had 25 total pencil illustrations, and I thought, "This should be book!" So here it is!
