THE REVIEW IS IN...literally! Stop by Portland Book Review and see what reviewer Michael Albani has to say about Crow in the Hollow. Here's a hint – he gave it four stars. :)
For a limited time, I have made Crow in the Hollow: Creating a New World Fantasy available on my site. It's chock full of sketches, full illustrations, and inside information about the world of Crow in the Hollow and the characters that inhabit it. Be sure to check it out while it's available.
Hey all! Just an update on book three of YOU CAN RELY ON PLATYPI – I'm still working on making this the best issue so far. I've been a little sidetracked with the Crow in the Hollow and freelance work of late, but I'm really starting to get some good pages going. I'm about half way through with the blue line drawings, and then it's on to inking.
Making a comic all by yourself (plotting, writing, drawing, inking, and designing) is A LOT of work, but it's incredibly rewarding as well. It's like making a movie where you have no budget restrictions! :) So,for those that are awaiting the next installment, I appreciate your patience and rest assured that you won't be disappointed.
Here's a quick PLATYPI Fact:
Iggy was inspired by a lot of things I loved as a kid – Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, Howard the Duck, The Adventures of Tintin, Babar, and even his coat is inspired by Marty McFly's from Back to the Future. The fact of the matter is that he represents a part of me as well – the part that is boundlessly optimistic and believes in the amazing. Conversely, Jay Jones also represents a part of me - the part that really thinks through everything but can doubt it's self and it's on abilities. Throughout their adventures , Iggy and Jay will teach each other a lot, and become not only great friends, but also a really effective team.
Josie and I were at Wordstock Book Festival in Portalnd, OR, today. We were at the Inkwater Press booth signing copies of Crow in the Hollow from 3pm until 5pm, and we met a ton of great people. Fellow book lovers are the best! We talked about literature, poetry, movies, and young adult fiction. I also had a lot of people stop by and talk with me about Crow in the Hollow – what it's about, what were my influences, and just my general opinion on modern fiction. We had a blast, and sold some books as well. :) THANKS FOR HAVING US INKWATER PRESS!
