Wonder By Design: The Visual Language of Picture Books
This essay explores a topic that I am very passionate about – the world of picture book design and illustration. The art form of children's literature is one based on a long history and has grown and developed over the decades. Each creator has brought something new and distinctive to the craft, but each uses conscious and well organized design to invoke a sense of immersive wonder. By studying their approaches, a book designer can learn how to capture that wonder in their own projects. To better convey this, I used spot illustrations in my essay layout. |

Grant Business Plan for The Wonderous Science
This document outlines my plans for a grant to fund my YA/middle reader series, The Mysteries of the Laurel Society. Not only would the grant fund the production and marketing of the first book in the series, The Wonderous Science, but also fund a class for middle school and high school students to help them develop their own stories. The program would push for more diverse voices in YA fiction, as well as more diverse characters and settings. |
