By hook or by crook, I made it here!!!! Yay WILLAMETTE WRITERS!! Both classes, Visual Storytelling and Creating Diverse Worlds, went really well. Diverse World-Building was pretty popular, and was filled to capacity. They had to turn people away! I'm really proud that I had an opportunity to share my joy and knowledge about creative writing with so many. I want to send out a huge thank you and lots of love to the Willamette Writers Conference organizers (in particular John Doverand Kate Ristau) for a wonderful weekend! My classes were filled with energetic, creative, and open-minded authors, and I couldn't have been more pleased. Thank you all for your questions and your enthusiasm (and for overfilling the room on my last class - huge confidence booster for me!) I'm really looking forward to next year, and hope to be back. #BelieveInWonder

I had an awesome time with the kiddos, and I hope they treasure their copies of Darren Strider: Bumblebee Rider. :)
Believe In Wonder had the wonderful honor of being selected reader at the Writers of Color Spring Showcase, hosted by Reema Zaman and hosted by Literary Arts along with Ooligan Press! This is the second installment of this series, which is intended to evolve beyond an annual event and promote a larger, more holistic conversation and tangible results for diversity in book publishing. The work we presented was Josie Parker's picture book masterpiece, OBI THE CHANGELING, and the book was well received. The enthusiasm and talent of the writers present was inspiring, and it was great to get a chance to mix and mingle with our literary peers.
Another great day with another great group of young people. I feel really blessed to have the opportunity to talk about creativity and storytelling with students.
Thanks everybody that came by Cosmic Monkey Comics for Free Comic Book Day! I was there in the afternoon, representing Believe In Wonder Publishing, and had a chance to hang out with some awesome folks. As special thanks to Sean Fishback, editor and educator extraordinaire, for tabling with me. :) Fun times!

View all the photos here. I've been a guest speaker at the Evergreen Middle School a couple of times, and I always enjoy the energy and enthusiam there. The students are engaged, articulate about their thoughts and dreams, and have amazing teachers that encourage them to achieve big things. This is the same school where the much lauded "Harry Potter Classroom" is part of the fabric of their education. How cool is that? This newest accomplishment is just one of many to come this amazing group of creatives and their inspiring teacher in Sean Fishback!! It was a real pleasure to work with them in bringing The Fire Book into the world, and I'm honored to have been a part of their great endeavor. :) #BelieveInWonder
Read the amazing article about Evergreen's new book! Be sure to grab a copy from Amazon, and your purchase goes towards dontations to the Red Cross! I'm blessed. I have a wonderful wife, beautiful children, and I get to wake up every morning and tell stories. My life is filled with wonder :) Today is my birthday, so I thought I would share some of that wonder with everybody. Almost 15 years ago, I wrote and illustrated my first book, and now I'm finally sharing it with the world (thanks to Josie's persistence that we needed to get it out there.) I was a bit of a scared kid, but I had a family that always encouraged me to strike out and try everything. This book is about that - not letting fear stand in the way of discovery and joy. If my life can mean anything, this is it - wonder lies on the other side of fear. So reach for it. Thank you all. #BelieveInWonder
