The Out of Time Series book cover designs
Through the Ooligan design d department, we were tasked with updating the cover graphics for Abraham Lincoln's adventures throughout time. For my designs, I took classic images of Lincoln, superimposed of textured photography from different era's of American history. The images were then overlaid with textures and distressing to give the graphic added visual interest. |
Cover design for Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days
I approached this project with a great deal of enthusiasm. Not only did I get a chance to showcase my design skills and illustrations, but also take a great classic and put my own visual twist on the layout. I started with a search for great vintage Victorian illustrations and flourishes, and augmented that look with my own image of the illustrious Phileas Fogg. I selected a fun and period appropriate font that really brought everything together. |
Cover designs for Admirari Press
For our Intro to Publishing group project, three of my classmates and I formed a small publishing group called Admirari Press. Our mission statement outlined our goals to bring diverse and culturally relative YA fiction and graphic novels to the book market. As Art Director, it was my task to craft the look of the front list and back list for out publishing company. I went for a boldly colored, illustrated look – something that would be visually interesting to young readers. |
Promotional materials for The Ghosts Who Travel With Me
by Allison Green Working with the production group for The Ghosts Who Travel With Me was one of the most educational experiences of my time in the Ooligan publishing program. It was a wonderful opportunity to work on a project that broadened my knowledge of the book promotion process, but also allowed me a chance to broaden my understanding of the memoir genre. A number of the pieces that I produced incorporated a "hand done" look and feel, inspired by the journal writing style of the book itself. Aged paper, textures, and travel ephemera helped to convey the personality of Allison's journey of discovery. |
Poster illustration for the Write To Publish event, hosted by Ooligan Press
My design for the Write to Publish poster was strongly influenced by not only previous years visual aesthetic, but also my own love of propaganda poster designs from the 1940s and 1950s. The bold, diagonal directionality, coupled with the blank "every man" figure evokes a sense of mystery and discovery that draws in passersby. The final image was updated by Erika Schatz, the very talented designer and the design team lead in Ooligan Press, and it ended up being a great collaborative effort. |

Original game design: The Vermin King
Having the opportunity to explore my love of games and try my hand at designing one was a great experience. There is so much nuance to crafting a game that works for different kinds of players, and the process requires a host of different skills. |

Moby Ick or Mr. Fishback's Monster by Steve Sabatka
Based on an early draft of his book, I designed a cover layout as well a few interior sample pages. I had determined that the book was targeted at a middle reader audience, so my designs were informed by visual conventions of that age range of books, including page size, font size, incorporation of illustrations for visual interest, and colorful cover design. |
